The magazine is normally around 120 pages per issue, but I pulled out just Martin’s article for you to download in PDF format below. issue of Photoshop User magazine (published 10-times a year for KelbyOne members). His article is the cover story in the Sept. Two recommendations, and this goes for anybody.ġ] Shoot RAW.it always gives you more options.Ģ] Calibrate any screen you use to view / manipulate your photography, pointless trying to do good work if your screen is did a just brilliant job on this eye-opening article, and I want you to be able to read it (even if you’re not a KelbyOne member).

This is what Øyvind Kolås has been working on, and if he gets the financing to work on GIMP full time, I think both LR & PS might be left in the dust as archaic software.I suppose it all depends on just how much of a quantum leap GIMP turns out to be, and how easy it ends up being to use.it will certainly need a less powerful PC/Graphic card / RAM configuration than Adobes software.Īnyway, it depends what you want to do with your photography. GIMP on the other hand, because of it slow development, hadn't implemented a lot of features found in LR/PS because it saw a eventual better way to do them. The thing is that LR & PS are both programs that are sort of stuck with a base core of programming, that can only be added to, without any drastic change that would vastly improve both, only because they have to remain compatible with previous versions.Windows suffers the same problem. You might think, well 'Big Deal', it's freeware, how good can it be.

The free software GIMP has been for many years only been built by one main person Øyvind Kolås, part time, for free, anyway, a few weeks ago there was a post asking for contributors to help fiance GIMP's main builder so he can work on the project full time. Would be interesting to see RAW photo comparisons posted between Lightroom and Capture One 8.Įnded up with the Adobe LR/ PS option, as they dropped the annual price to a more tolerable AUS$130 PA for the both, plus as I'm not the only user, I had to opt for software that supported new cameras owned by others than myself, which eventually happens with Capture One, but wasn't at the time.

You can download a free 60 day trial of Pro 8. They have priced their software two ways, straight out purchase for AUS $330 or rented for AUS $12 per month. Phase One have obviously seen they backlash against Adobe and decided to go for it and I reckon that the updates will be large and good

I found at the capture One site was the update schedule for Pro 8. Oh yeah Baby, this software is now blurring the lines between Lightroom and Photoshop, sure it's missing some features that LR and especially PS have, but!
no luck finding it at there website, but I did find it from a Beta Testers Blog. It was then that I saw that Capture One had been updated to a new version 8 a few days earlier.
Much like iTunes has done for this generation Music wise, it has been convenience over substance that has made our decisions.īuy a new Camera and Adobe will have a ACR update pretty close to when it hit's the shops, so you can use it with it's software.Īfter reading that review / comparison, I decided to visit the Capture One site to get more info, which I did yesterday well we have been so used to Adobe being the default that a lot, if not most of us have never contemplated using anything else. Well, while surfing around the net, I came across this review/ comparison of 3 RAW processing software programs.ĭXO Optics 9, Lightroom 5 & Capture One Pro 7. So why the sudden interest you might ask? It does support DSLR's and certain lens profiles, but they have been WAY less than Adobe Camera RAW.Ĭurrent list of supported cameras and lenses in PDF below. It's traditionally been the choice for Medium & Large format digital photographers, as it has the support needed for their cameras and lenses It needed a separate cataloging program, or use Lightroom just for that purpose, which seemed rather pointless. I've been aware of Capture One Pro as a good RAW processing program, but have never seriously considered it as a option to Lightroom or Photoshop, mainly because it never had the cataloging strength or diversity that Lightroom has.
